Vice-Mayor of Hope arrested on theft charges

The Vice-Mayor of Hope, AR faces theft charges stemming from an incident last month at a Subway restaurant.

Hope Police say they were called to the restaurant at 417 N. Hervey St. on July 16 regarding some money being stolen from an individual. After an investigation by both officers and the department's Criminal Investigation Unit, they arrested 57-year-old David Howard Johnson.

A toddler drowned over the weekend in a southwest Arkansas pool.

DeQueen Police, the DeQueen Fire Department and Southwest EMS say they got a call Sunday evening to the 1100 block of West Maple Street about a possible drowning. At the home they found 4-year-old Manuel Hernandez unconscious and tried to revive him.

Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe released $100,000 from the Governor's Disaster Fund to help the state response to Arkansas wildfires. The money will pay for Arkansas National Guard response to the fires.

Texarkana Food Bank reschedules watermelon harvest event

Harvest Texarkana had to postpone its watermelon harvest from August 5 to Wednesday, August 10. They need volunteers to help pick watermelons at the Fulton Grass Company at 7 a.m. All watermelons harvested will go to food pantries across southwest Arkansas and Bowie County for free. The Fulton Grass Co. is located in Fulton, Arkansas just 3.5 miles from I-30, only 18 miles from Texarkana and 12 miles from Hope. From I-30, take the Fulton Exit #18. Turn south and follow the dirt road 3.5 miles to Fulton Grass Farm.

AR State Police arrest suspect in fatal hit and run accident

A Little River County, Arkansas man is charged with manslaughter after a fatal hit and run accident Thursday night.

Little River County Sheriff's Office responded to a call from a passerby around 7 p.m. Thursday to County Road 57 in northwest Little River and found a red Chevy Cobalt car that had run into a tree.
