Hope Police Department today launched a tough new speed enforcement blitz for the City of Hope, Hempstead County under the tagline: “Obey the Sign or Pay the Fine.”  The intensified enforcement effort against speeding drivers underscores the severity of the problem both locally and across the nation.

“Speeding translates to death on our roadways. It greatly reduces a driver’s ability to steer safely around another vehicle, a hazardous object, or an unexpected curve.

2 SW AR airports get federal money for construction & repairs

SW ARKANSAS (KSLA) – A pair of SW Arkansas airports will get federal money for construction and improvement projects.

The Magnolia Municipal Airport will get $480,000 to build an apron for extra aircraft parking. The Nashville-Howard County Airport will get $293,092 to repair and expand the apron and to install a vertical/visual guidance system to make the airport more accessible to pilots.

New AR driver's licenses will denote military veterans

LITTLE ROCK, AR (KSLA) – Starting Friday, July 1, Arkansas veterans will have proof of their military service on their driver's license or identification card.

On the new design, the word 'Veteran' will be shown below the person's ID picture. The designation was created by "The Nick Bacon Remembrance Act" in honor of former Department of Veterans Affairs Director and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient who died in 2010.

Hempstead County man killed in I-30 accident

MILLER COUNTY, AR (KSLA) – A Hempstead County man was killed after a two-vehicle crash on I-30 Tuesday night.

Arkansas State Police say about 11:30 p.m., 29-year-old Daniel Banuelos of Hope, AR was about 10 miles east of Texarkana in an SUV traveling west when he veered off the highway, went across the median and hit an oncoming 18-wheeler head on.

Banuelos died at the scene.

Columbia County now under burn ban

Columbia County now under burn ban

Columbia County has joined several other southwest Arkansas counties in declaring a burn ban.

County Judge Larry Atkinson declared the ban on all outdoor burning within the county. According to the Arkansas Forestry Commission, conditions in the area are extremely dry.

HOWARD COUNTY, AR (KSLA) - A 13-year-old Arkansas teen remains in serious condition after an accidental shooting.

The Howard County Sheriff's Office says the 13-year-old was accidentally shot by a 14-year-old friend on Thursday afternoon.
