Harvest Texarkana looking for help in fund raising challenge | Community Spirit

Harvest Texarkana is hoping the public can help them win a challenge that could bring some much needed funding to the organization.

The food assistance agency is taking part in the Feinstein Foundation's $1 million donation challenge. The more money the organization can raise between March 1 and April 30, the more money Harvest Texarkana can get from the Feinstein Foundation.

Funds raised from this challenge will go to help support the Harvest Texarkana Regional Food Bank with daily operations to serve more than 100 agencies in 9 Southwest Arkansas Counties and Bowie County, Texas.

In 2011, Harvest Texarkana distributed over 2.5 million pounds of food to 50,000 individuals facing food insecurity in the region. Recent struggles in the economy have led to a greater need for food assistance from Harvest Texarkana’s programs and agencies. This includes the Backpack program that now feeds a record high of over 450 children at 14 campuses every weekend.  More and more food must be purchased by the food bank to keep up due to scarcities in food donations.

Feinstein’s past annual spring $1 million challenges to fight hunger have raised over $1.25 Billion for over 2000 agencies and houses of worship nationwide helping the needy. Donations toward this campaign make participants partners in the most successful ongoing effort ever to fight hunger. This is a nationwide campaign supporters can take pride in.

Only donations or pledges received from March 1st to April 30th will be counted.  These donations can include cash, checks and food items. All food donations will be valued at $1.00 per pound. The Feinstein Foundation’s one million dollars will be divided proportionately among all agencies giving a maximum of $35,000 to participating hunger relief agencies like the Harvest Texarkana Regional Foodbank.
