Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia officially dedicated a new agricultural building on Friday.

The nearly $8 million facility is the first agriculture building constructed on the campus in more than 60 years.

SW AR state park hosts Fall Gardening workshop

The Historic Washington State Park invites southwest Arkansas to attend its Heritage Gardening in the Fall Workshop. The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, October 8, 2011. The four hour long workshop begins at 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The park's gardener will provide those interested, hands-on instruction in gardening, just in time for Fall. Soil preparation and heirloom varieties, as well as different methods will be discussed, according to workshop organizers.

The gardens of Historic Washington will be your classroom. Space is limited and reservations required.

AR governor releases state money to help in fire fighting efforts

Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe released $100,000 from the Governor's Disaster Fund to help the state response to Arkansas wildfires. The money will pay for Arkansas National Guard response to the fires.

Texarkana Food Bank reschedules watermelon harvest event

Harvest Texarkana had to postpone its watermelon harvest from August 5 to Wednesday, August 10. They need volunteers to help pick watermelons at the Fulton Grass Company at 7 a.m. All watermelons harvested will go to food pantries across southwest Arkansas and Bowie County for free. The Fulton Grass Co. is located in Fulton, Arkansas just 3.5 miles from I-30, only 18 miles from Texarkana and 12 miles from Hope. From I-30, take the Fulton Exit #18. Turn south and follow the dirt road 3.5 miles to Fulton Grass Farm.

4th Annual 4-H Day coming to Four States Fair August 4

The 4th Annual Four States 4-H Day will be from 9:15 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 4 at the Four States Fair Ag Learning Center. All ages 9-18 are welcome.
