Arkansas park to present 'Archeology of Washington'

Historic Washington State Park in Arkansas invites visitors for dinner, a tour and an "Archeology of Washington" presentation from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 23. Participants are asked to meet at Williams Tavern restaurant to begin the tour.

45th Jonquil Festival set for this weekend at Ark. park

Jonquils are in bloom at Historic Washington State Park in Arkansas, and a tremendous line-up of entertainment and fun await those who will be visiting the park on March 15 through 17 for the 45th Annual Jonquil Festival.

Festival hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and  9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. General Admission is free, with a $5 fee for parking. Park tours and programs are available at regular price with tour stops such as the BW Edwards Weapons Museum, Print Shop and the Blacksmith Shop, along with many more on the schedule.

Southern Arkansas University Biology Prof. Claude Baker is preparing his students for the 16th annual Great Backyard Bird Count this weekend.

From Feb. 15 - 18, SAU faculty and students in biology of birds, ecology and vertebrate zoology classes will participate in the volunteer research weekend, and they encourage everyone in Columbia County to join with them in the project.

Wildlife photographer Tom Ulrich to present at SAU

World renowned wildlife photographer Tom Ulrich will present his work at his 21st annual visit to Southern Arkansas University at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13 and 14 in Foundation Hall of the D.W. Reynolds Campus and Community Center.

His work will include captured images from his 2012 adventures in Alaska, Africa, Glacier National Park and of the bird migrations of south Texas and Florida.
